For the past 5 months, I ‘managed’ baby’s itchy cradle cap with a combination of cradle cap cream (Mustela / Bioderma’s Baby Squam) and Baby Dove shampoo. Every second day, it would invariably come back. Well, no more!
A mum in my birth club on Babycenter recommended using Calendula cream and it has worked wonders. We are now going on 5 days without cradle cap, the longest ever! With 20 days to go before we shave baby’s head for the first time, I’m so relieved to have found this solution!
According to Healthline.com:
Calendula oil is a natural oil extracted from marigold flowers (Calendula officinalis). It’s often used as a complementary or alternative treatment. Calendula oil may have antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties that might make it useful in healing wounds, soothing eczema, and relieving diaper rash.
I use Weleda’s Baby Calendula Face Cream, which I apply to baby’s head once a day. I also continue to use the Baby Dove shampoo ‘just in case.’ (This brand of shampoo helped reduce the cradle cap and stop it from developing aggressively).
